The Kuba Kingdom is located between the Kasai - Lulua and Sankuru rivers in Western Kasai DRC - Congo.

Kuba court art displays status and prestige which are manifestations of social and political hierarchy. Wealth and rank are expressed in extensive displays beaded regalia which included belts and charms.

Narrow belts with beaded knots are usually worn by women.

The laborious process of making the bead-covered knot is a challenge to the beadworker’s skill. It is adorned with rows of cowries, which formerly served as currency, as a sign of both wealth and beauty.

The glass beads, imported from Europe, were also favorite embellishments that call attention to the wearer’s wealth, prestige and beauty

The cowrie is a symbol of prosperity and fertility for its resemblance to the female.
